According to an article in the Drovers Journal, the the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday approved a disaster relief package intended to aid some of the nation’s livestock producers who are coping with the nation’s worst drought in 50 years. The bill, which allows payments of up to $100,000 per farm, will help cattle and sheep ranchers but not hog, poultry or dairy producers, according to Reuters.

The aid package will also need to be approved by the Senate but it was uncertain if that body would vote on the measure before Congress breaks Friday for its month-long summer vacation.

But the Senate did not pass the proposal before going home for August recess.  Sorry to get your hopes up.
